Prayer in the life of our church
This church has three distinct prayer ministries.
First, we have the Healing Prayer ministry. The study of Healing Prayer, under the guidance of Ruth Coyle, takes place most Friday nights at Ruth’s house. Anyone is welcome to attend.
Second is the Intercessory Prayer group that meets each Wednesday evening at 6:45 at Marjorie Vosburgh’s apartment at Weathervane. This dedicated group of folks spends time praying for all kinds of needs that have been brought to them.
Third is the Prayer Chain. The Deacons are in the process of re-doing the prayer chain list. Those who are a part of this ministry are charged with specific steps when a prayer request comes in.
1) write down the request
2) focus on request, passing it on immediately, then
3) pray immediately concerning the request.
As you can imagine, sometimes prayer requests are confidential , so Christian integrity must be exercised.
If you feel led to become a part of the prayer chain, speak to Dave at the church office (453-4280)
In The Family
I would like to thank one and all for the love, support, prayers and care that have been given to Ruth Coyle, that have helped in getting her back on her feet for a fast recovery. Thank you from my heart.
(Cousin) Janet Schroeder
Please continue to keep Bill and Linda Norton in your loving thoughts and prayers as they begin this cancer treatment journey for Bill. Also continue to lift up Mary Anne Kevra as she continues her treatments.
We are happy to have Darlene Simmons at home for more than a few days at a time!
We remember Beth Ann Trombly and her family in the loss of her mother at the end of May.
We welcome Jim and Liz Edwards to the “Weathervane family” ! They move into the downstairs apartment in Weathervane West this weekend.
We welcomed Aaron and Lorisa Rivers June 20 th as they brought forward their daughter Katherine Elizabeth for Christening. From here, they are headed back to Oklahoma , then traveling to Minot , ND , where Aaron will be stationed for the next couple of years.
Muriel Orvis is slowly mending from her broken wrist a month ago. The Thursday morning game crowd misses her!
In Fellowship!
Please keep in mind a donation for the “goodie boxes’ the Deacons will be putting together for our military. The basket is in the foyer. Donations may include such things as hard candy, gum, crossword puzzle books, baby wipes, lip balm, maple syrup........
Youth Ministry!
The Sr. High Canoe trip gathered its life vests, canoes, sleeping bags, crates and crates of food, coolers and more last Monday morning for a five day trip to the Adirondacks . Ten students went with leaders Todd, Carolyn Griggs, Matt Brown and Sara Quesnel. The trip was a great success and we are thankful there were no serious injuries. It was the most challenging trip we’ve taken (10+ hours of paddling and two different sites) and the students did a great job. Amidst the fun and games, a highlight of the trip was our group time around the fire.
The next trip will be with our middle school students. On July 23-25 we’ll spend two nights at the Patterson’s camp and spend a day at Six Flags.
USM will be co-sponsoring the Hill Country Holiday Auction this year along with Lincoln Sports. That means half the proceeds will go to USM, which will help us in our efforts to raise money for next year’s mission trip. If you have good useable items to donate, please leave a message at the church and USM will be happy to pick them up.
The Be-Bop Car Hop will take place on Saturday, July 31 beginning at 5 p.m. Fine dining and loads of fun!
We’d also like to recognize our long time leader, Carolyn Griggs. She was featured in a recent Addison Independent article. Enjoy!

In Learning
"Obituary - Someone Else"
Our church was saddened to learn this week of the death of one of our most valued members, Someone Else.
Someone's passing creates a vacancy that will be difficult to fill. Else has been with us for many years and for every one of those years, Someone did far more than a normal person's share of the work.
Whenever there was a job to do, a class to teach, or a meeting to attend, one name was on everyone's list, "Let Someone Else do it." Whenever leadership was mentioned, this wonderful person was looked to for inspiration as well as results; "Someone Else can work with that group."
It was common knowledge that Someone Else was among the most liberal givers in our church. Whenever there was a financial need, everyone just assumed Someone Else would make up the difference.
Someone Else was a wonderful person; sometimes appearing superhuman. Were the truth known, everybody expected too much of Someone Else. Now Someone Else is gone! We wonder what we are going to do.
Someone Else left a wonderful example to follow, but who is going to follow it? Who is going to do the things Someone Else did? When you are asked to help this year, remember - we can't depend on Someone Else anymore.

There are jobs to be done around the church and parsonage. Find out how you can help by checking out the “Job List” in the back of the sanctuary.
Also, think ahead to the coming Sunday School year and consider teaching this year full or part time. Let’s not leave everything to “someone else”.

Food for thought:
Fathers: Key to their Children’s Faith
A rather obscure but important study conducted by the Swiss government in 1994 and published in 2000 revealed some astonishing facts with regard to the generational transmission of faith and religious values. In short, the study reveals that "It is the religious practice of the father of the family that, above all, deter-mines the future attendance at or absence from church of the children." (Editor’s comment: I’m sure the numbers are similar here in the U.S. 16 years later.)
Mother attends church regularly, father does not attend church at all:
2% of their children will end up attending church regularly
37% of their children will end up attending church irregularly
60% of their children will end up not attending church at all
Mother attends church regularly, father attends church irregularly:
3% of their children will end up attending church regularly
59% of their children will end up attending church irregularly
38% of their children will end up not attending church at all
Father attends church regularly, mother does not attend church at all:
44% of their children will end up attending church regularly
22% of their children will end up attending church irregularly
34% of their children will end up not attending church at all
Both mother and father attend church regularly:
33% of their children will end up attending church regularly
41% of their children will end up attending church irregularly
25% of their children will end up not attending church at all
